Back in 1949, the FCC enacted a far-reaching and impactful policy called the Fairness Doctrine. That doctrine required broadcasters both to present controversial issues germane to the public interest and also to do so in a way they considered honest, equitable and balanced. Some say the repealing of that doctrine was the beginning of the end for truly objective journalism. Greg Dobbs, former correspondent for ABC, explains how the burden for determining the truth is now up to all of us, the news consumers.
